Our Story

The Canadian Chapter of the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA) was founded in February 2016 in Alberta, Canada, with the intention to serve as a forum for Canadian nurses with an interest in the prevention, intervention and treatment of addiction.

The original enthusiasm to connect and work collaboratively with nurses specializing in addiction has resonated and garnered much interest from nurses across our Nation.

As our chapter continues to grow, new board positions and provincial representatives are being sought. Please check out our regional website for details.

Vision, mission and goals

1. Build membership nationally and have provincial representation to increase the network of nurses working in the field of addiction across Canada and Internationally.
2. Enhance awareness and understanding of addiction, and its impact on the individual, family and community.
3. Work to destigmatize addiction.
4. Support and inspire nurses across the care continuum to become champions of quality care for individuals and families experiencing addiction.
5. Promote Canada’s most current research, evidence-informed practice guidelines, and knowledge resources to advance skill, and competence within the specialized field of addiction nursing.
