How to Start an IntNSA Chapter

Are you passionate about improving addiction care and supporting nurses in your area? You don't have to wait for an active chapter to exist near you. You can start one!

Because IntNSA is an international organization, the exact process for forming a chapter depends on your geographic location, and local legal structures. However, our global leadership team is here to guide you through every step of the journey.

 

Step-by-Step Overview

While local requirements vary, establishing an IntNSA chapter generally follows four main phases:

1. Connect & Form Your Core Leadership

  • Gather Your Core Team: Identify a total of three (3) dedicated colleagues to form your initial executive leadership:

    1. Chair / President

    2. Vice Chair/ President Elect 

    3. Treasurer

    4. Secretary

  • Meet with IntNSA Global Leadership: Schedule an initial consultation meeting with IntNSA Global leadership and your 3-person team to discuss your region's vision and review the Chapter Formation Toolkit.

2. Tailor for Your Region

Because legal and operational requirements differ across borders, your regional plan will address:

  • Governance & Structure

  • Legal & Financial Setup

  • Membership Needs

3. Charter Approval

  • Complete and Submit the IntNSA Chapter Charter Agreement 

  • Draft basic chapter bylaws (we provide adaptable templates!)

  • Submit your proposed 3 or 4-person leadership roster and preliminary goals for official review by the IntNSA Board of Directors

4. Official Launch & Growth

  • Once approved, receive your official IntNSA Chapter Charter

  • Host your inaugural regional meeting, virtual webinar, or launch event

  • Gain access to IntNSA branding, web pages, and chapter officer resources
